Organisers of the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival have confirmed the festival will not be going ahead this year due to the ongoing Covid pandemic. It is the last big festival of the year to be cancelled. The iconic festival which is over years old attracts tens of thousands of people from Ireland and overseas who flock to the event to enjoy socialising and find love. There are a lot of singles and couples, from all generations who are going to be very disappointed, but I think everyone will understand that the risk is simply too high. The festival brings so much joy to people, who come to find love or and reconnect with friends before the long winter months roll in. The lack of social events this year is devastating and I think the mental health repercussions will be huge, especially in rural Ireland. Since the lockdown began loneliness and isolation is now affecting more people than ever before. People thrive on social connections and that is why Lisdoonvarna has kept its appeal for so many years. However despite the current uncertainty, Mr White said he was remaining positive for
The Outing LGBT Music & Matchmaking Festival 2017
My name is Willie Daly and I am a third generation traditional Irish matchmaker: a gift I inherited from my father and his father before him. On the west coast of Ireland, just a few miles from Lisdoonvarna in County Clare , I live on a small elevated farm with horses, ponies and donkeys within view of the Cliffs of Moher , the wild Atlantic Ocean of our own Liscannor Bay and the beautiful, spellbinding, magical Burren.
I have been matchmaking for over 50 years and am proud to say I have matched over couples in my lifetime. Matchmaking is in my blood and I am fortunate to have inherited the skills of my father and grandfather. Like them, I know instinctively what makes a good match.
The globally famous event, which takes place in the Co Clare town every September, attracts thousands of people from around the world who hope to find their perfect match. The organisers have said that as the next phase of ‘Reopening Ireland’ has been postponed, which would have allowed indoor gatherings of people and outdoors, the event will now have to be cancelled. Mr White said was the busiest and most successful Lisdoonvarna festival ever and he is staying positive looking ahead to Northern Ireland news.

More than 60, singles flock to Lisdoonvarna, Ireland every year for its famous matchmaking festival. By Kelly O’Sullivan. Aug 2,
Lisdoon — as it’s known locally — sprouted up from the karst limestone landscape in County Clare to become one of Ireland’s earliest tourism hot spots. But water wasn’t the only reason people flocked to this spa town. At the end of the harvest in September, farmers descended on the thriving village in search of an alternative tonic: a cure for their lonely hearts. They arrived single and, if all went well, left with a woman who’d be their wife.
The meet-a-mate tradition — or at least the general gist of it — continues more than years later with the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival , Sept. Billed as Europe’s largest singles event, the annual shindig draws tens of thousands to this tiny town pop: for music, drinking, dancing and the hopes of getting pierced by cupid’s arrow. It may be physical attraction or a roof over their heads. During the festival, Daly commandeers a nook at the Imperial Hotel’s Matchmaker Bar, where he waits for patrons to seek out his services.
His daughter Elsha, who’s developing a website to bring the matchmaking process into the 21st century, is more pragmatic. Daly brings the family heirloom to the festival: a shabby, dog-eared book that contains the personal details of couples matched over the past century.
